Wednesday Night Youth service. Jason Denning.
RUNNING THE RACE:
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV
Sin can hold us back but there are hindrances that slow us up.
SO YOU WANT TO GET INTO THE RACE.
What race will you be in? The rat race, or the Lords marathon.
PREPARING FOR THE RACE:
Is this choice I am about to make be good for my soul?
Is your home life and church life inseparable?
Give it all, God does not want just parts of out heart.
WHAT WILL BE YOU OBSTACLES:
Sin will come your way, but also watch out for things that are hinderances.
Hinderances will block your attention from God. Entertainment.
What are the fruitless things you do?
Think of all the things you could do for got and get to doing them. Push on.
There are weights and sins that easily beset us. Sins that we keep falling into.
There are sins in our lives that tangle us from running the race to the best of our ability.
We pick up so much baggage in life that we are weighted down to the point that we can't run.
We grow tired and only want to sit and relax. We become lazy, lousy Christians.
Ask your self, What is taking your time away from the Lord?
HOW WILL YOU RUN THE RACE:
“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.” 1 Corinthians 9:24
How will you run the race for the Lord?
Have you lost sight of the prize?
It's not a sprint, it's to the finish.
WHAT IS THE PRIZE YOU ARE RUNNING FOR?
We need to look towards Christ.
He is our end goal, don't stop when things get tough, keep running.
Don't give up.
Don't give in.
Don't lose focus.
Take time today to ask God what junk you have in your life that can be laid aside, if you don't you might get bogged down. Ask God to scan your heart and find the hindrances in your life.
Ask God to help you to be a support for the brothers and sisters around you. Lord make my heart soft for you.
Testimony of the hand of God in Ryan Meek's Life.
Ryan Meek's testimony.
Trying to figure out what to do, on a sunny afternoon in Florida I asked my uncle if I could take out the jet ski. We had done this before and we're ready to spend an afternoon of sunshine and fun. That was not how the day went, as wee took off the throttle got stuck and we hit the dock at 55. I landed on the dock of a retired a force veteran, he said the noise was so loud that he thoughts airplane had crashed in his back yard. Still awake I told him the throttle stuck. My girl friend was face down in the water, he revived her. I spent 49 days in a coma. God was watching over me, my faith was made stronger, the doctors said I would be a vegetable. They said it was hopeless, he is brain dead, the neurologist said to start planning on pulling the plug. 90% of people in this situation end up a vegetable for the rest of their life. Only 1% ever recover to live a normal life. But God had other plans. During this time my family had a motto, "God's got this. " We trusted that God was in control. It took along time to learn how to talk and walk again. Today Ryan is singing and serving God.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11 KJV
Dr. Paul Cushman. St Cloud Church of God.
Do you feel like your life is a storm and no matter what way you turn that the winds are against you?
Today there is a gospel being preached about health and wealth, every thing is going well, smooth sailing.
There are those that preach once you accept Jesus it's all going to be great., no more problems... Jesus said differently...“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 KJV
TWO TYPES OF STORMS
A STORM OF CORRECTION.
When a Christian is going the wrong way a storm will come to help us correct our course. How sad it is when God gives us direction and we ignore it. I would rather have a God who corrects me than one who lets me live in error.
“My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.”
Proverbs 3:11-12 KJV
This type of storm is not there to destroy you, but put you in the correct direction. When a father corrects his child it is not because he hates then, but because he loves them.
When you are off track some time a storm is what it takes to steer us in a better direction.
A STORM OF PERFECTION.
Some times in the perfect will of God there are still storms. You can be doing the perfect will of God and still have storms in life. Let them bring you closer to God. Some storms are writhing God's will to let them happen.
Stephen was still beheaded.
Paul was still ship wrecked.
Peter was still crucified.
Job still lost it all.
Jesus sent the disciples out to sea, even they were in a storm.
“And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.”
Matthew 14:22-33 KJV
If you are faithful to Jesus he will come walking to you in the midst of your storm, don't give up, morning will come and the us will shine one more time.
He never comes too early and never too late.
Contrary winds can cause you to get your eyes off Jesus. Peter took his eyes off Jesus and started to focus on the storm around him. He started to sink, but Jesus stretched out his hand.
Did they forget what happened in chapter 8?
“But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead. And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!”
Matthew 8:22-27 KJV
Q: Where was Jesus during this storm?
Jesus was right there, Jesus can calm the storm. He knows that there is a storm, he knows our thoughts, just because you are I the midst of a storm, that doesn't mean your backslid.
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”
Isaiah 43:2 KJV
Q: Are you I a storm today?
God is there to see you though, trust him, he's got this.
Father's Day 2016 Dr. Paul Cushman.
SOUND ADVICE FROM A FATHER:
“And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.... And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the Lord God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.” 1 Chronicles 28:9, 20 KJV
David's was a great king over Israel, one of his greatest responsibilities was that he was a father. On his death bed he called his son Solomon to his side. He wanted Solomon to be a faithful servant to God.
SEVEN THINGS FATHERS NEED TO PASS ON TO THEIR CHILDREN.
1- Pass on your relationship with God to your children.
Fathers, They are watching how you live.
They are watching how you treat your wife.
Children then and today need an example of what living for God is like.
They need to know God.
“And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2:52
The heart beat of David was he wanted to know that his son would know God like he knew God.
2- Pass on that there is a God:
The most important instruction you can give to your children is that there is a God in heaven.
There is a living God who cares about you and sent his son so that you might have life. Make God the top priority in your life.
3- Pass on a love for God's word.
We must study our Bible and find God in the pages. We need to be seen reading, sharing, and living out the Bible. It is our light in this world. It drinks faith and shows us what is right. It is a story of how much God loves people. Teach them what the Bible says about living.
4- Pass on what it means to serve God.
God deserves our very best. How do you serve God.
Serve God with a perfect heat. A heart that is in tune with his will. Don't serve God half hearted, don't try to hold on to the world with one hand and God with the other.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15
Keep serving him till the day you die. Remember this part of the above verse...
but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
5- Pass on what it means to love God.
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38
The God who created all things is interested in your life.
6- Pass on what it means to serve others.
“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” Matthew 7:11
People need help, and people need hope, we have the ability to do both.
7- Pass on the right attitude. Just do it!
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21 KJV
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22
We ca serve God because he gives us the strength to do it.
Q: What will you pass on to your children?
Q: What will your legacy be?
Q: Will you train up your children I the way they should go?
Remember even when they grow up and out you will still be Dad.
The Cushman's grandson talks about how God helped him through a deviating jet ski accident.
The throttle stuck and he hit a dock at 50 mph. The Doctors said pull the plug. Come next week and see a miracle.
REPAIRING THE ALTER OF THE LORD.
Dr. Paul Cushman.
And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down. 1 Kings 18:30 KJV
Q: Why was the alter broken down?
Q: Why are alters broken down today?
Abraham was alter builder. Genesis 22:9
Moses was an alter builder. Exodus 17:15
Noah was an alter builder. Genesis 8:20
A pastor on a mission trip was driven though a poverty stricken area, he noticed satellite disks on most of the shacks, He asked how can they afford those? The people can hardly afford food, they have little or no medical care. The answer was, its was a matter of priority.
What are your priorities?
At one time the alter was an important part of a church design. It was a priority. The alters were the center of worship and praise. They were front and center. It was at the alter that intercession was done for loved ones, and prayer for those who are lost. People were healed and burdens were lifted. People were filled with the spirit and sanctified. It was there that the power of God changed people's life's. Many churches today are done with alters, they have pulled them out, they don't see the value in alter time. Get them out and make room for the next service. How fast can we get to Cracker Barrel? The spiritual alter calls are being lost too, at the end of a service there is no invitation. There is not a call or opportunity to bring change in life. America today is in spiritual crisis. Just watch the news and you will see the effects of a nation that has turned away from serving God.
“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”
Proverbs 14:34 KJV
The church as a whole needs to find a place to pray and have a move of God that will shake our foundation.
Q: What makes an alter?
Q: What are we to use an alter for?
We all need an alter where we can bow before God and give thanks for the blessings of God.
We need to be thankful, like the kid on thanksgiving who was asked what are you thankful for? He said "I am thankful I am not a turkey"
3 VERSES ANOUT PRAISING GOD:
1- In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 Thess 5:18
2- Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him,
and bless his name. Psalms 100:4 KJV
3- Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. Psalms 150:6 KJV
God wants you to have alter where you come and give thanks and praise to him.
People have drifted so far from God that they don't even know what sin is anymore. People go through life covering their sins, they are good at fooling people. But they will NEVER fool God.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” 1 John 1:9-10 KJV
Q: Have you prayed that God would forgive you of your sins?
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV
You can go to the alter and find forgiveness of your sins.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:1-2 KJV
Look to Calvary and see the man who did the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity.
FIVE QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL ALTER:
1- When you are there can you see Jesus on that cross and what he did for you?
2- Do you have and alter where you can go and speak to God each and every day?
3- Do you confess you sins to him?
4- What shape is your alter today?
5- Does the alter of your heart need to be repaired today?
When people get right with God at an alter the rest of the things in life fall into their proper place. When you confess your sins, he will forgive you.
Take a moment and find a place to pray and repair your alter today.
TWO TYPES OF FAITH.
Text: James 2
James was the brother of Jesus and known as camel knees, because he spent so much time in prayer his knees were ruff. We need to pray. Teachers are always tempted to try to find something new, trying to pull a rabbit out of the hat, and chasing after what ever the trend is. Tonight lets spend our time talking about the Word.
Charles Blondin, A Famous Tight rope walker once a crossed the Niagara falls. The crowed cheered. He went across with a wheel barrel with items in it from sacks of potatoes, rocks, and even a stove. It was said he stopped and took time to cook an omelet. After a while he asked if the crowed believed he could push the wheel barrel across with a man inside? They all cheered. He then asked for someone to get in. Time to go past saying you believe and putting it into action.
FAITH HAS WORKS:
“What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”. James 2:14-17 KJV
You can talk about being a Christian and how much you want to do, but have dead faith.
Show me your faith.... Go ahead.... Show me. Just stand here and show the people your faith.
Q: How do you show people your faith?
You show people your faith by the way you live.
If a camera crew fallowed you around, would they gather enough evidence to prove you're a Christian?
Do you live your daily life in a Christ like manner?
FAITH HAS ACTION:
Everyone quotes Paul...
"Not of works, lest any man should boast".....
But what about the next verse?
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
FAITH HAS LOVE:
“And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13:2
THERE IS MORE TO BELIEVING:
“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”
FAITH WAS NOT MENT TO BE QUIET:
We should not walk around silent. Anyone can say "I believe in God" It's time to act like it.
We are all called to show and share our faith. We need to try our best to live our lives as an example of faith. Faith and action working together. Never be ashamed of Jesus.
"The grace that does not change my life will not save my soul." Charles Spurgeon.
It's not a holier then thou kind of thing, It's a right with God kind of living thing, it is real, it's how we are supposed to live for Christ.
“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
CALL TO ACTION:
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 2 Corinthians 13:5
SO THERES TWO KINDS OF FAITH, DEAD FAITH OR LIVE FAITH....
WHAT KIND DO YOU HAVE?
Don't just say you have faith, but have something real.
Opening - John Hodil
When we come together to worship God, he inhabits the praises of his people.
Too many people play Christian. People say they are Christian but have no clue what that means. Gods promises are true and he will always keep them. If we turn things over to God, he will see you through. Trust him.
MY GOD; IN HIM WILL I TRUST.
Dr. Paul Cushman.
“He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
Psalms 91:1-2 KJV
One year ago I received a call that a family member was involved in a terrible jet ski accident. The throttle jammed and they hit a dock at 50 mph. How could we as a family eat with this. Twisted and broken, they did not have much hope. We were told to seriously consider that they would have to pull the plug. They have done all they could do. He laid there crushed for 49 days in a coma...
Come visit us next week to find out what happened next.
Q: How does a family of faith deal with this?
1- Trust that God because he ALWAYS has your best interest in mind.
2- Keep your trust and confidence in God. Turn to him. He is your strength.
3- Don't blame God, and walk away from him to live a life in rebellion.
There will come a day when the sun will shine again. It's easy to say when all is going going great. But how do we react when the bottom drops out of our life and it feels like God is a million miles away? Trust and obey Gods word. Obedience a starts with a mind that says yes to God. We need to trust him in every area of our life. In good times and bad, in easy and hard, rich or poor, healthy or weak, in all areas.
If you keep your faith in God, no matter what happens, you will come out the winner.
No matter what happens in our life, God will take care of us.
It's tuff times that test your trust in God.
Can you say, My God in him will I trust, even when things go wrong in our eyes?
Trust God to direct our steps.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. Psalms 37:23-24
Every crisis we go through brings us closer to God.
GOD KNOWS WHAT YOUR GOING THROUGH.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11
GOD WHANT US TO TRUST HIM, EVEN WHEN LIFE MAKES NO SENCE.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passed all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 KJV
THE GOOD, JOB HAD A GOOD LIFE.
There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
THE BAD, JOB LOST IT ALL, EVEN HIS CHILDREN.
Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
and THE FAITHFUL, JOB KEPT HIS FOCUS ON GOD.
In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
42 chapters later....
“So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.” Job 42:12
Are you I a crisis today?
Do you know Jesus?
Do you have a place to turn in times of trouble?
If your heart is heavy today, put your trust in God, he will see you through.
LOOK IT UP. TAKE SOME TIME TO PUT GOD'S WORD IN YOUR HEART.
