Pastor Lewis Cushman, St Cloud Church of God.
I enjoy life on this earth, but if I were to die tonight, I know where I would spend eternity.
“And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”. Matthew 16:19
Apply this scripture to your life.
Each and every one of us who have believed on Jesus Christ have the keys.
When you are given authority, your are given keys. You can come and go as you please.
A door is meant as a barrier. When you have keys its not a big deal.
When God gives you authority, he will give you the keys, you will not be slowed down by the enemy.
He may put up doors to block your way, BUT you have the keys.
Q: Do you realize your authority in Jesus?
In the name of Jesus, you can take authority over the things in this life.
There were time when people came into church and were possessed, have you ever seen that?
People crawling around on the floor, growling, or even barking like a dog?
Back then the believers understood their authority.
LIFE STORY TIME:
Dexter, Main. 60 years ago.
Setting: A Pentecostal convention.
The Cushman family sang, the Holy Ghost fell, and people were blessed. But on the front row there was a demon possessed woman who sat there and hissed through the service. She hissed at the songs, and she hissed at the message. Later 15 ministers prayed for here during the afternoon break, They prayed that God would deliver her that night. She came back for the evening service and sat right back on the front pew, she started hissing again. The spirit moved and the minister started to dance, He moved around the front, she stuck here foot out to trip him, it did not work. He just went right over here foot. She tried again, this time he grabbed a hold of that lady and said,
" in the name of Jesus, come out!"
She was delivered that night. WE HAVE AUTHORITY!
Times have changed.
Q: Do we really need the power of Holy Spirit in the church tonight?
A: YES WE DO! A resounding YES. There needs to be an anointing on the pulpit and the congregation.
There is no gap between the ministers and the people, it's all of us together.
We are all here as one and all here to worship.
THE POWER OF AUTHORITY:
Q: Where does the power source come from?
All power is given unto me in heaven and earth. - Jesus
Jesus had authority to command wind and waves.
Q: Have you ever been in a boat on the ocean in a storm?
The disciples were afraid and Jesus was asleep, he rose up and said peace be still' and the wind and waves stopped.
Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, and delivered the bound.
We have been given that same power and authority.
“When he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.”
Matthew 10:1 KJV
This same Jesus who called the disciples, is the same Jesus who called us.
It's the same blood of Jesus that provides us forgiveness.
He gives us the same power to see lives changed.
When I was a kid, I would head down to the local 5 & 10.I would get a candy bar and a soda, I would say “put it on the bill.” I did not know why I would say that, I did not understand how it worked, it just did, they gave me my stuff and it was taken care of. My grandma had set up and account so that I could do this and given me authority to get a snack and pop. She always paid the bill. We may not understand how the authority of God works all the time, but it always will. And God will take care of it.
Heather forgot her favorite blanket at school. She cried and there was little that could be done School was closed and the family was in for a long afternoon and night of crying. BUT… Someone knew the principle, and she was let back to the school and opened the door so they could go in and got here blanket. Someone knew someone who had authority. Someone who had keys. We know someone who has authority, and he gave it to us.
“And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:19 KJV
HOW CAN WE HAVE THE FULLNESS OF GOD?
What about the power shortage we have in our life?
What if you don't feel like praying today?
What if you don't feel like reading the bible today?
You are suffering from a power shortage.
You need to know God has given you authority to tap into the power of the Holy Ghost.
WHAT HAPPENED WHEN YOU DON’T LIVE IN THE AUTHORITY ?
If you don't learn how to live in the authority that God has given you will become,
1- Defeated. I might just as well give up.
2- Despaired. The complete loss or absence of hope.
3- Despondent. In low spirits from loss of hope or courage.
I just don't know what happened to me, have you gotten to a place where you just don't care anymore.
“Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.” 2 Timothy 1:6 KJV
YOU NEED TO STIR UP THE GIFT.
God gave you gifts that are needed to be in operation in the church for it to function.
You never know who will come through the doors of church.
Are you ready?
Are you ready to reach the lost?
What if a sheriff came up tonight and cuffed me to the pulpit?
I would be stuck till someone came with a key.
I would also be important that the person with the key knows how to use the key.
When we learn to use the authority, we become destructive Christians to the enemy’s kingdom.
We can walk in to the enemy’s camp and take back what he stole from us.
What if you REALLY understood the authority God gave to you as a Christian?
One Wednesday night my oldest son was not coming out for church. I went back to let him know it was time to head out. He looked up at me and said...
“I'm not going to Church tonight; in fact I am not going to church ever again.”
That made me not want to go, it was saddening.
Have you been told that your children will never be saved?
Have you been told that you will never amount to anything?
The devil is a liar.
Don’t listen to him, take authority over the situation.
As long as you are obedient to the Holy Spirit, you will see great things being done.
Q: What would church be like if each of us realized who we are, and what authority we have?
Jesus, Lover of my soul,
Jesus, I will never let you go
You’ve taken me from the miry clay
You've set my feet upon the Rock, and now i know
I love you, I need you,
Though my world may fall, I’ll never let you go
My Savior, my closest friend,
I will worship you until the very end
