THE GREAT SHEPHERD:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalms 23
When we take our last breath, and we go into the presence of the Lord, it brings great comfort knowing we will be there forever.
Q: How many times have you read Psalm 23?
How many times have you heard the 23rd Psalm is used in funerals.
God's people use it when they are going through times.
1- When going through Sorrow.
2- When going through Depression.
3- When we don't know what way to go.
When was this Psalm written?
Some think this was written when David was young.
Some believe it was when he was king.
Regardless of when, I thank God for this Psalm.
When hard times come turn to the Word of God and you will find the answer.
Facing death. I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Facing prosperity. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.
Facing enemies. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.
The answer is in the Word.
Have you ever wondered where God is in the middle of a hard time in life?
God will put a song in your heart, just listen, it's there for you.
God is David's provider.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
THE LORD is the shepherd.
If you always say "I want, I want, I want." The Lord might not be your shepherd.
Q: Who is your shepherd?
It is who you are following, it is who you are looking to for instruction in life.
Q: Is your shepherd Godly or ungodly? Good or bad?
Jesus said “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.”
John 10:11 KJV
A few things about sheep.
Sheep are stubborn.
Sheep are hard hearted.
Sheep are Pig headed.
Sheep are Dirty.
Sheep are Filthy.
Sounds like some people I know.
Sounds like me.
David said the Lord is MY shepherd.
But the Lord is not everyone's shepherd.
Some people don't want to follow Jesus, they don't want his Word, they simply don't want God in their life.
DID YOU KNOW NOT EVERYONE IS A CHILD OF GOD?
“Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” John 8:42-44 KJV
Jesus said it.
It's your choice who's child you are.
Follow Jesus and be a child of God.
Follow the devil and be a child of satan.
THE BIG QUESTION: WHO WILL YOU FOLLOW?
The things that we collect in this life will rust away.
We need to long for the Lord, he is the one that can fill the gap in our heart.
The only thing we can really count on is the Lord.
God is David's peace.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
We get so caught up in the cares of this life that we forget to take care of the spiritual things in our life. We need to let the Lord lead us.
If you don't take a day of rest and lay down some time, the Lord can MAKETH you to lay down.
Think about that the next time you get laid up.
How much time do you spend in prayer?
How much time do you spend studying the Bible?
How much time do you have for church?
If your life is a wreck, look to God.
God is David's restoration.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Q: Who needs restoration?
If your soul is broken, tired, worn down, rusted out, spiritually low, then YOU need restoration.
Look to the Lord he is the one who can restore the soul.
